8 workers injured in oil tanker blast at Sitakunda

CHATTOGRAM, Sept 16, 2025 (BSS) - Eight workers sustained burn injuries in an explosion while dismantling a scrapped oil tanker at a shipbreaking yard in Sitakunda upazila this afternoon.

The blast occurred around 1 pm at the Ziri Subeder Ship Breaking Yard in Phultala area under Sonaichari union, police and locals said.

Superintendent of Industrial Police in Chattogram, Abdullah Al Mahmud said the explosion took place suddenly during cutting work on the vessel, leaving eight workers injured.

Of them, two are in critical condition and are currently undergoing treatment at separate private clinics in the port city.
