People throng Bagahata River to watch traditional boat race

HABIGANJ, Sept 17, 2025 (BSS) - Traditional boat race (Nouka Baich) was held yesterday (Tuesday) in the Bagahata river at Baniyachanga village under Habiganj Sadar upazila of the district with great enthusiasm.
 
The boat race was arranged by the youth organization of Bagahata village as part of age-old traditions and culture of Bangladesh.

Hundreds of people crowded on both sides of Bagahata River to enjoy the boat race.

President of the organizing committee Moinuddin said, “We organize boat race every year and are committed to doing so in the future as well. It creates a celebratory atmosphere with people supporting their favourite boatmen and we all enjoy it”.

Adviser of BNP Chairperson Dr. Shakhawat Hassan Jibon distributed prizes among the winners of boat race at the function, local leaders of BNP and representatives of local government bodies, among others, also attended.
      
Boatmen from different districts participated in the competition. Among the participants, Pail village boatmen won first prize while Tangirghat village boatmen secured second position and boatmen of organizing committee achieved third position.
