Cigarettes worth Tk 6.96 lakh seized from two passengers at Ctg airport

CHATTOGRAM, Nov 22, 2025 (BSS) - Customs authorities, NSI, and Customs Intelligence at Chattogram Shah Amanat International Airport seized nearly two hundred cartons of cigarettes and 250 banned beauty creams from the bags of two passengers arriving from Dubai at Chattogram Shah Amanat International Airport.
 
Engineer Mohammad Ibrahim Khalil, the Public Relations Officer of Shah Amanat International Airport, confirmed the incident on Saturday. He stated that these products were found during a joint operation conducted in a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines BG-148 which landed at around 9:30 am on Saturday.

According to Airport Public Relations Officer Engineer Mohammad Ibrahim Khalil, the luggage of passengers Md. Fakhrul Islam (Passport No. A02066261) and Md. Ashraful Islam (Passport No. A00519130) was searched -- in a joint operation by Customs, National Security Intelligence (NSI), and Customs Intelligence – as part of routine surveillance.

A total of 199 cartons of foreign cigarettes and 250 pieces of banned Gauri cream were seized during the drive. Customs sources stated that a duty of Tk 6,96,500 has been calculated for the seized 199 cartons of Mond cigarettes. 

The cigarettes were seized at a declaration missed (DM) value and are currently held at Chattogram Customs House. The two passengers involved were released after giving a verbal warning from the customs branch, rather than being detained, according to Shah Amanat International Airport Public Relations Officer Engineer Mohammad Ibrahim Khalil. 

Similar operations will continue to maintain security and good governance at the airport, he added.
