CUMILLA, Jan 16, 2026 (BSS) - Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has recovered a Chinese rifle and a locally-made firearm that were looted from a police station during last year, following a special operation in Muradnagar upazila of the district.

The recovery was confirmed on Friday at around 12 noon by Major Sadman Ibne Alam, company commander of RAB-11, CPC-2 in Cumilla.

According to RAB, the operation was conducted around 2:00 am on Friday in the Lajoir area under Muradnagar Police Station, acting on the basis of secret intelligence.

During the raid, the elite force recovered the two firearms that had been taken from a police station during the unrest that followed the July movement on August 5, 2024.

Taking advantage of the chaotic situation, vested interest groups and criminal gangs allegedly made off with large quantities of arms and ammunition, RAB said.

Following the incident, intelligence surveillance was intensified nationwide to track down and recover the looted government weapons. As part of that ongoing effort, the two firearms were recovered in Muradnagar based on confidential information.

RAB stated that legal proceedings are underway in connection with the recovered weapons. The force also reiterated that its operations will continue to identify and arrest those involved in looting police arms and ammunition during the unrest.
