SUNAMGANJ, Feb 11, 2026 (BSS) - A festive mood is prevailing across the district centring on the 13th National Parliament Election and Referendum.

The district administration and law enforcement agencies have taken extensive preparations to ensure free, fair and impartial elections.

At least 470 polling centres have been brought under Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) surveillance.

The district administration has identified 89 high-risk polling stations in nine out of 12 upazilas across the district's five parliamentary constituencies. In addition, 157 centres have been marked as remote.

Deputy Commissioner and District Returning Officer Dr Mohammad Ileas Mia said a mobile team of law enforcers, including a magistrate, will remain deployed near the high-risk centres. "If any problem arises, the team will be able to reach the centre quickly," he added.

He further said the identified centres will be monitored through CCTV cameras. Three police personnel and armed Ansars, led by a sub-inspector, will be on duty at each centre.

Eight of the district's 12 upazilas are surrounded by haors. A total of 20,80,335 voters are expected to cast their votes in the five parliamentary constituencies in this year's election.

Dr Mia said Sunamganj has historically remained peaceful with no record of major political violence. However, the district's geographical features, particularly the haor and remote border areas, pose challenges in transporting election materials and maintaining immediate communication.
