Three killed in Tangail road accident

TANGAIL, March 17, 2026 (BSS) - Three people, including an auto-rickshaw driver, were killed in a head-on collision between a bus and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Dhanbari upazila of the district today.

The accident occurred this afternoon at Nolhara village near the Nalla Grameen Bank office under Dhanbari municipality.

The deceased were identified as Ali Akbar, 50, son of late Muhammad Ali of Senbari village in Dhanbari upazila of Tangail, Umar Faruk, 45, son of late Torap Ali of Bangali Para village in Sarishabari upazila of Jamalpur district and Khokon, 42, a resident of Bausi area in the same upazila.

According to police and local sources, the accident took place when a bus heading towards Dhanbari from Jamalpur collided head-on with the CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Nolhara village near Nalla Grameen Bank. 

Two people died on the spot, while another succumbed to injuries on the way to a local hospital. Among the deceased, two were passengers of the CNG-run auto-rickshaw.

Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge of Dhanbari Police Station, Nurus Salam Siddique, said the identities of the three deceased have been confirmed. The bodies will be handed over to their families after completing legal formalities, he said.
