Two persons killed, two injured in Ctg shopping mall fire

CHATTOGRAM, Mar 19, 2026 (BSS)- Two person died and two others sustained severe burn injuries in a fire broke out at a shopping mall at Terribazar under Kotowali thana in the city.
 
Fire service and local sources said the fire broke out at K B Shopping Mall at Terribazar area at about 9.40 am today and lasted for more than one hour.

 The fire was originated at forth floors and engulfed five and six floors. 

The victims were identified as Md Yunus, 52, son of Md Yasin Khalifa Badhupur Mirza Bari and Solaiman, 28, son of Mamunul Kader of Pachuria under Patiya upazila of the district. 

Another injured persons Mamum, 28, is undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
 
Leaders of the market trade association said the fire was originated in a tailoring shop from electric short circuit. 

After getting information, Fire Service and Civil Defense workers reached the spot and brought the flame under control after more than hour long frantic efforts.
  
The injured were rescued by fire fighter and sent to nearby General Hospital and then Chattogram Medical College Hospital where on duty doctors declared Younus and Solaiman dead. 

Traders and locals said a good quantity of readymade and unstitch cloths worth about Taka eight lakhs were gutted in the fire.
 
First five floors of 10-storied K B Orchid Plaza were occupied by commercial enterprises including garments stores, tailoring houses, jewelry shops and banks while rest five floors are residential apartments. 

City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain, Abu Sufian MP and general secretary of Chattogram city unit Jamaat-e-Islami Principal Md Nurul Amin visited the spot.
