GAIBANDHA, Mar 19, 2026 (BSS) - Two minor children drowned in a pond at Chuniakandi village under Badiakhali Union of Sadar upazila in the district this noon.

The victims are identified as Anuruddha Chandra, 7, son of Nash Chandra  and Apurba Chandra, 4, son of Robin Chandra of the village. They were cousins in relation.

Local and family sources said both children were playing on the side of a nearby pond at noon. At one stage they went down to the pond to fill water in the bottles and accidently drowned.

Later, their family members started searching for them and found their bodies in the pond floating. Then their bodies were recovered.

When contacted Officer-in-charge (OC) of Sadar Thana Md. Abdullah Al- Mamun  said, he heard the incident and sent one of the sub inspectors to the village for collecting information in this regard.

No complaint was filed with the thana in this connection till afternoon, he added.
