RAJSHAHI, April 4, 2026 (BSS) - Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kazi Shahidul Islam has announced a tough stance against artificial fuel shortages and illegal stockpiling.

He said illegal hoarding of fuel would not be allowed under any circumstances, and those involved would face fines and legal action.

He made the remarks this morning while talking to journalists after inaugurating a cleanliness drive at the Katakhali municipal market in Paba upazila.

Noting that drives against fuel market irregularities are ongoing across the district, the DC said strict instructions have been issued for operations to be conducted from the union level to all upazilas by UNOs, Assistant Commissioners (Land), and Executive Magistrates.

He added that amid the global crisis, the government is trying to manage the situation by providing billions in subsidies. In this context, ensuring fair distribution of goods in the market is the administration's primary goal, he said, adding that anyone attempting to create artificial shortages, engage in corruption, or hoard goods would be identified and brought to justice.

The DC said the administration had promised to transform Rajshahi into a clean and well-maintained city, and implementation of that commitment has already begun.

He said steps have already been taken to quickly complete unfinished drainage work left by the Barind authorities. At the same time, instructions have been given to identify and clean clogged and unclean drains in upazilas and municipal areas.

He further said maintaining cleanliness in municipalities is an ongoing process. Therefore, weekly cleanliness activities will now be conducted across different areas of the district, and these initiatives will be strengthened at the field level.

Among those present were Deputy Director of the Local Government Division Zakiul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioners Md Sabur Ali and Mohinul Hasan, and Paba Upazila Acting UNO Mohammad Mehedi Hasan, among others.
