Man electrocuted in Pirojpur

PIROJPUR, April 25, 2026 (BSS) - A man died after being electrocuted while allegedly attempting to steal an electrical transformer in Mathbaria upazila of the district early this morning.

The deceased, Md. Russell Howlader, 36, was the son of Mansur Howlader from Dakshin Mithakali village under Ward No. 3 of Mathbaria Municipality.

According to police and local sources, the incident occurred near Matubbar Bridge in the municipality. Russell reportedly climbed an electric pole with the intention of stealing a transformer. During the attempt, he came into contact with a live electrical line, resulting in severe electrocution. He fell from the pole and died at the scene.

Local residents discovered his body the following morning beneath the electric pole, with visible burn injuries on his left hand and parts of both legs. They promptly informed the authorities.

Officer-in-Charge Md. Rabiul Islam confirmed the incident and said further legal procedures, including the autopsy, is currently underway.
