TANGAIL, June 20, 2026 (BSS) - Four people of ethnic minority community died today after falling into a septic tank in Madhupur upazila while trying to rescue a goat.

The incident took place at about 9 am this morning in the Telki Jolai village under Arunkhola Union.
The victims were identified as Gabriel Nakrek (45), Ratan Nakrek (25), Bablu Hadima (35) and Neymar Mrong (10) of Telki Jolai village under Madhupur upazila.

Police and locals said a goat fell into an abandoned septic tank this morning. Later, Gabriel Nokrek first went inside the tank to rescue the goat.
After a while, when he did not receive any response, three more persons entered the tank one by one to rescue him. But they did not come out either.

On information, a team of Madhupur Fire Service reached the spot and recovered the bodies of four people from the tank.

Madhupur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Fazlur Haque told BSS that it is believed that they died due to suffocation due to toxic gas accumulated inside the abandoned safety tank.

However, he said, the real cause behind the deaths can be confirmed after the investigation.
