School teacher electrocuted in Rangamati

RANGAMATI, June 20, 2026 (BSS) - A primary school teacher died after being electrocuted in Naniachar upazila of the district this morning.

The deceased was identified as Shatabdi Chakma, 50, a teacher at Ramhari Para Government Primary School in Naniachar upazila and a resident of Vedvedi Rangapani Sukhinilganj area of the district town.

The incident occurred in Samaj Kalyan area of Ghilachhari union while she was on her way to school. She had been waiting for a CNG-run auto-rickshaw when she attempted to pluck jam (rose apple) from a roadside tree using a bamboo stick. The stick reportedly came into contact with a live electric wire.

Locals quickly rescued her and rushed her to Rangamati General Hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Officer-in-Charge of Rangamati Kotwali Police Station M Jasim Uddin confirmed the matter.
