
KURIGRAM, June 28, 2026 (BSS) - The National Vitamin A-plus Campaign has begun here today with a target of administering vitamin A capsules to 3, 33,316 children across the district.
The campaign was formally inaugurated here this morning in front of the Civil Surgeon’s Office by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Annapurna Debnath as chief guest.
According to the Civil Surgeon’s Office, the programme covers children in the district’s nine upazilas and one municipality including 38,500 children aged 6 to 11 months and 2, 94,105 children aged 12 to 59 months.
Children with disabilities have also been included in the campaign. Among them, 150 are aged 6 to 11 months while 561 are aged 12 to 59 months.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Swapan Kumar Biswas told BSS that special arrangements have been made for children living in the district’s remote char areas, considering their heightened health risks. More than 200 centres have been set up in these hard-to-reach areas to ensure that eligible children receive the vitamin A capsules.
The campaign is being conducted through a total of 2,070 centres across the district, with 4,136 volunteers and 240 supervisors deployed to implement the programme.
Among others, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Kurigram Khandaker Fazle Rabbi, District Council Administrator Sohel Hosnain Kaykobad, Civil Surgeon Dr. Swapan Kumar Biswas, Superintendent of Kurigram General Hospital Dr. Nur Newaz Ahmed, District Sports Association Member Secretary Professor Shafiqul Islam Bebu and District NCP Convener Mukul Mia, were present at the function.
Officials said the vitamin A supplementation campaign is essential for preventing childhood blindness, strengthening immunity and reducing the risk of child mortality. Volunteers are working at the grassroots level to ensure that no eligible child is left out of the programme.
