CHUADANGA, June 28, 2026 (BSS) - Maryam Akter Pinky, a 33-year-old resident of the district's Palashpara area, has successfully carved out an identity as a thriving woman entrepreneur by producing adulteration-free powdered spices and eco-friendly geo-bags.

Starting her business venture with a modest capital of only Taka 50,000, Pinky's locally manufactured powdered spices are now being sold across various retail shops in Chuadanga. Concurrently, her eco-friendly geo-bags are gaining widespread popularity among urban gardeners for planting trees on rooftops.

Once a housewife, Maryam always dreamed of creating an independent identity alongside managing her household duties. Today, that dream has turned into reality. Driven by her intellect, hard work, and relentless determination, she established a unique venture named 'HM Enterprise'. Her homemade spices and geo-bags have now created a significant buzz locally.

Pinky is the eldest among the two daughters and a son of Md. Aynal Haque, a resident of Dhuturhat village under Chuadanga Sadar Upazila, located about 12 kilometers from the district town. Following her marriage, she relocated to Palashpara within the Chuadanga municipal area. She is the mother of two daughters.

Academically, Maryam completed her primary education at Dhuturhat Government Primary School and passed her SSC from Sarojganj Khademan Nesa Secondary Girls' High School. After completing her HSC from Badarganj Degree College, she earned a DMF (Diploma in Medical Faculty) degree from Faridpur Global Health Care. Later, she completed an LMF (Licensed Medical Faculty) course from Hope Health Care in Chuadanga and dedicated a long period to public service by volunteering in free medical camps across the district. Eventually, inspired by her family and relatives, she stepped onto the path of entrepreneurship.

The motivation to deliver pure and healthy food to people's doorsteps inspired her to produce homemade spices. On March 10, 2025, she founded 'HM Enterprise'. She manufactures BSTI-approved homemade spices and geo-bags using domestic methods. Currently, her factory employs three workers, set up inside a 2,000-square-foot office space in the town's Palashpara area.

Speaking to BSS, Maryam said, "I started this business with just Taka 50,000. Within a span of one and a half years, my business capital has grown to Taka 7 lakh. Every day, I sell products worth around Taka 7,000, combining all types of spices and geo-bags. Monthly sales average around Taka 2 lakh. Currently, powdered turmeric is being sold at Taka 300 per kg, coriander powder at Taka 300, chili powder at Taka 500, and cumin powder at Taka 900 per kg."

"I always wanted to stand on my own feet," she continued. "We constantly hear about various kinds of adulteration in the spices we use daily for cooking. That s why I first thought of producing pure spices. That thought marked the beginning of HM Enterprise. I have come this far today with the inspiration of my family and one of my mentors. I received entrepreneurship training from various places. Following the training, I obtained BSTI approval and began manufacturing powdered spices and geo-bags domestically," she added.

The core attraction of Maryam s enterprise lies in these two diverse products. For her homemade spices, she personally washes, dries, and grinds various items, including chili, turmeric, coriander, cumin, and assorted hot spices (garam masala), before packaging them. Since she uses no artificial colors, the market demand for her products is rising by the day.

Alongside spices, she manufactures geo-bags to protect the environment and assist rooftop gardeners. These bags have become highly popular for planting trees and preventing soil erosion. Made using home-based technology, these bags are durable and cost-effective.
