In the morning, Bangladesh High Commissioner to Pakistan, Md. Iqbal Hossain Khan, formally hoisted the national flag in the presence of all officials and staff, followed by the singing of the national anthem in unison.

The discussion session began with the recitation from the Holy Quran and was followed by a one-minute silence in remembrance of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the War of Liberation.

Messages from the President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister, and State Minister for Foreign Affairs were read out on the occasion. A documentary on Independence Day was also screened during the program, according to a press release signed by Press Counsellor Md. Taiyab Ali.

Welcoming the guests, High Commissioner Md. Iqbal Hossain Khan paid deep respect to the Birangonas and valiant freedom fighters and the martyrs who contributed for the nation.

Referring to the fateful night of March 25, 1971, he said the Pakistani occupation forces carried out one of the most brutal genocides in history under the name of the Operation Search light, targeting unarmed people of Bangladesh.
