Independence and National Day celebrated in Rangpur

RANGPUR, March 26, 2026 (BSS) – The Independence and National Day-2026 was celebrated here today with great enthusiasm, with the call for building a self-reliant, developed Bangladesh to fulfill the dream and aspiration of independence of every citizen.
 
The district administration, Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC), BNP, its affiliates and different political parties, educational institutions, sociocultural and professional organisations organized colorful programmes to celebrate the national occasion.
 
The celebration of Independence and National Day in a completely democratic environment carried a special significance this year, as tens of hundreds of euphoric people from all walks of life participated in the day-long celebration. 
 
The celebrations began with heralding 31 gun salutes at the Rangpur Police Lines ground at zero hours today. 

With the sunrise, the national flag was hoisted atop all government, semi-government, private and public buildings, educational institutions and other establishments.
 
Floral wreaths were placed at the ‘Shaheed Muktijoddha Smritistambha’ in the city’s Collectorate Surovi Uddyan with the sunrise. 
 
Member of Parliament (MP) from Rangpur-3 constituency Mahbubar Rahman Belal, Divisional Commissioner Md Shahidul Islam, RpCC Administrator Advocate Mahfuz Un Nabi Chowdhury Don, Deputy Inspector General for Rangpur Range Police Aminul Islam, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Majid Ali, District Council Administrator Md Saiful Islam, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Enamul Ahsan, Superintendent of Police Md Marufat Hussaine placed wreaths there first.
 
Later, leaders of BNP, its associate bodies and other political parties, heroic freedom fighters, heads of government departments and educational institutions, business bodies, civil society members, professionals and commoners placed floral wreaths. 
   
The Divisional Commissioner with high officials ceremonially hoisted the national flag amid rendering of the National Anthem at Shaheed Abu Sayeed Stadium at 9 am.
 
Later, he saluted the March Pasts of scouts, girls in scouts, and students and children of different schools and witnessed their colorful displays there.  
 
Heroic freedom fighters, family members and relatives of martyred and injured freedom fighters were accorded receptions and given prize bonds at the District Shilpokola Academy Auditorium at 11 am. 
 
The district administration arranged a special discussion on the War of Liberation and independence at the same venue at noon with the Deputy Commissioner in the chair.
 
Member of the Parliament (MP) from Rangpur-3 constituency Mahbubar Rahman Belal, the Divisional Commissioner, RpCC Administrator, DIG, RpMP Commissioner, SP, heroic freedom fighters, political leaders and civil society members addressed these occasions.
             
The speakers said that the heroic people of Bangladesh achieved this national independence in exchange for the blood of three million martyrs in the War of Liberation in 1971. 

 Every citizen must fulfill their responsibilities with dedication to build a non-discriminatory, accountable, self-reliant and prosperous Bangladesh to realize the dream of independence, they said.
  
A district level drawing competition on the Liberation War was organized for children in various educational institutions.
 
Screening of films on the War of Liberation at cinema halls without tickets and screening of documentary films at open places for students and at their own institutions were organised.
 
Special prayers and munajats were offered at mosques, temples, pagodas, churches and other worship places seeking eternal peace for departed souls of martyred freedom fighters and good health of injured and living freedom fighters, continuous peace, progress and development of the nation.
 
Improved diets were served to the inmates of all hospitals, jails, Shishu Paribars and orphanages, street children rehabilitation centers, children development centers, welfare centers for physically challenged people, shelters for aged citizens, vagabond centers and child daycare centers.
 
In addition, Rangpur Kendra of Bangladesh Betar aired special programmes and local dailies and online newspapers published special supplements glorifying the importance and dignity of the day. 
           
The district and metropolitan units of BNP and its affiliates, heroic freedom fighters, different political parties and organisations, Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur Medical College and other educational institutions celebrated the day with colorful programmes.
