BOGURA, Feb 9, 2026 (BSS) – Mir Mahmudur Rahman, Islami Andolan candidate for the Bogura-5 (Sherpur-Dhunat) constituency, has said that his primary objective is to establish a justice-based social system.

Bogura-5 is considered a highly significant seat among the seven in Bogura due to its economic and geographical importance. Historically dominated by BNP and Awami League, the fall of the Awami League in 2024 has created a new electoral equation for the 13th national parliamentary election, where Mir Mahmudur Rahman appears to have a strong position.

In an exclusive interview with Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), he shared his vision and expectations regarding the upcoming polls.

BSS: What are your election pledges for the local voters?

Mir Mahmudur Rahman: The core goal of my politics is to establish a justice-based social system. Islami Andolan will work to ensure the moral development of the people in the area, a corruption-free administration, and the protection of fundamental rights.

BSS: What are your instructions to party leaders and activists regarding the electoral code of conduct?

Mir Mahmudur Rahman: Islami Andolan always believes in decent and peaceful politics. Our activists have strict instructions to conduct their campaign while strictly adhering to the Election Commission’s code of conduct.

BSS: What is your stance on the referendum regarding the "July Charter"?

Mir Mahmudur Rahman: Public participation should be present in significant state decisions. However, the most important factor is that the referendum must be fair and free from any influence.

BSS: What are your expectations for the upcoming parliamentary election?

Mir Mahmudur Rahman: I expect an acceptable and neutral election where people can cast their votes without fear. It is the policy of Islami Andolan to respect the verdict of the people.

A total of five candidates are contesting the Bogura-5 seat: G.M. Siraj (BNP), Dabibur Rahman (Jamaat-e-Islami), Mir Md. Mahmudur Rahman (Islami Andolon), Shipon Kumar Rabidas (CPB), and Khan Kudrat E Saklain (LDP).

The constituency features 188 polling centers with a total of 1,023 booths (997 permanent and 26 temporary).

In Sherpur Upazila, there are 306,841 voters, including 149,862 males, 156,976 females, and 3 third-gender (Hijra) voters. In Dhunat Upazila, 265,499 voters are expected to exercise their rights, comprising 131,425 males, 134,071 females, and 3 third-gender (Hijra) voters.
