Country has adequate fuel stock, more consignment arriving by this month: Tuku

SANGSAD BHABAN, April 7,2026 (BSS) –Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood Tuku today said the country has adequate stock of fuel while stating to continue nation-wide anti-hoarding drive against the illegal hoarders.

“The country so far has no fuel shortage and has enough stock of all sorts of fuel including petrol, octane and diesel while a geo-political instability is prevailing in the Middle East ”, he said.

The minister said this in a statement while responding to a public important notice raised by ruling party lawmaker M Shawkatul Islam of Moulvibazar-2 submitted under rules 71 at the Jatiya Sagsad here with Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Bir Bikram, in the chair.

Following the US-Israel attack, the overall global fuel supply is facing a disruption as Iran has imposed embargo on cargo ship movement through the strait of Hormuz.

Under the situation, the premium and freight rate of the fuel are facing unusual volatility at the international markets.

Giving the statistics of country’s fuel stock and import situation, the minister said the country has a stock of 1,64,644 metric tons diesel  and 1.38 lakh metric tons more diesel will arrive in the country by April 30.
Country’s Octane stock is 10,500 metric ton while more 71,443 metric tons of Octane will arrive in the country within this month. The country has 6,000 metric ton petrol while more 36,000 metric ton petrol are arriving by this month.

Like the other countries in the world, different South Asian countries like India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Afghanistan are facing critical situation due to fuel crisis, he said, adding that Pakistan has already increased the fuel price by 50 percent, Sri Lanka has reduced the fuel rationing hour due to intensive fuel crisis.

Meanwhile, India, Nepal and Afghanistan have already increased the fuel price. But the fuel price remains unchanged only in Bangladesh under the situation, the minister pointed out.

Although the fuel price has increased unusually all over the world, but the government has  kept the fuel price unchanged in the country considering the industrial production, agricultural activities and the livelihood of the common people, energy minister told the parliament. 

To ensure the availability of diesel for irrigation, the minister said directives have been given to the deputy commissioners across the country to provide agriculture card among the farmers. 

To prevent illegal hoarding and fuel price hike, he said Instructions have been given to the district magistrates to conduct mobile court., adding that even monitoring team has been formed comprising with the representatives of district, Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) and ministry to monitor fuel situation.

“The government will keep the mobile court drive continue across the country to check the hoarding of fuel”. said the minister while giving the statement about the latest fuel situation of the country.

To oversee the fuel situation, zoom meeting is being held coordinating with the deputy commissioner in every day morning at 9.30am. Instructions have been given to the law enforcing agencies to check the smuggling of the fuel energy.
Tag officers also have been appointed at every fuel station aiming at smooth supply of the fuel.

To check illegal hoarding of the fuel, the government has carried out 342 drives across the country and filed 2,456 cases and 31 persons sent to jail in the last one month since March 3.

During this mobile court drive, over Taka 1.25 crore has been fined and more than 40.48 lakh liters of fuel also have been recovered.

Of the recovered fuels, over 3.33 lakh liters was diesel,36,405 liters was octane and 78,894 liters was petrol.
