
DHAKA, April 7, 2026 (BSS) - An Australian parliamentary delegation led by Speaker of the Australian House of Representatives Milton Dick will visit Bangladesh this week, with discussions set to focus on parliamentary engagement, energy cooperation and expanding bilateral ties.
This was revealed today when Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Susan Ryle called on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam, MP at the foreign ministry, said a foreign ministry’s press release here.
During the visit, the delegation is expected to meet Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Bir Bikram, MP, and State Minister Shama Obaed Islam.
They will also have a guided tour of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban and the July Revolution Memorial Museum, and are expected to observe parliamentary proceedings.
During the meeting, the Australian envoy discussed the possibility of LNG supply from Australia to Bangladesh to help meet the country’s growing energy demand.
She also highlighted prospects for enhanced cooperation in agriculture and climate change, alongside expanding bilateral trade and investment.
The state minister, in response, stressed the importance of collaboration in skill development of Bangladesh’s workforce and women’s empowerment initiatives.
She expressed hope that the visit would inject fresh momentum into Bangladesh-Australia relations following the formation of the new government.
