GAIBANDHA, May 23, 2025 (BSS) - A case has been filed with Gaibandha Sadar Police Station against six former lawmakers on charges of attempted murder of student leader Bayozid Bostami.

Bayozid Bostami Zeem, member secretary of the district unit of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, filed the case himself on Thursday afternoon.

The accused former lawmakers are Nahid Nigar Sultana, Shah Sarwar Kabir, Umme Kulsum Smriti, Abul Kalam Azad, Mahmud Hasan Ripon, and Mahabub Ara Begum Gini.

Besides the lawmakers, 85 leaders and activists of the banned Awami League and its front organizations have also been named as accused in the case.

According to the case documents, on July 14 and August 4, 2024, members of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement were staging demonstrations at the Gaibandha Government College field and in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office. At that time, several Awami League activists, on the instructions of the accused lawmakers, attacked the demonstrators and beat them severely.

The attackers also tried to kidnap Bayozid Bostami with the intention of killing him. He sustained bullet injuries during the incident, the plaintiff said.

Confirming the filing of the case, Shahinul Islam Talukder, Officer-in-Charge of Gaibandha Sadar Police Station, said efforts are underway to arrest the accused.
