Legal Aid provides legal counselling services to 574,278 people

DHAKA, May 14, 2026 (BSS) - A total of 574,278 people have received legal counselling services through the National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO) at government expenses.

According to an NLASO report, detailed information on legal aid services provided from 2009 to April 2026 has been highlighted.

During the period, 27,167 people received legal aid services through the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office at government expenses.

Besides, 320,753 people received services through 64 district legal aid offices across the country, while 22,153 people were provided legal assistance through Labour Legal Aid Cells in Dhaka and Chattogram.

The report said 204,205 people received legal counselling services through the government legal aid national helpline call centre’s toll-free number 16699.

These services are being provided at government expense under the Legal Aid Services Act for financially insolvent and helpless litigants, it added.

The activities of the NLASO are being conducted under the Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
