ICT sends 3 cops to jail in crimes against humanity case

DHAKA, Jan 28, 2025 (BSS) - The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) today sent three policemen to jail in crimes against humanity case filed over offences committed during the student-led July-August mass-uprising.

The three policemen are former additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police's (DMPs) Mirpur division Moinul Islam, former officer in-charge (operations) of Shahbagh Police Station Mohammad Arshad Hossain and sub-inspector (SI) Chanchal Kumar.

The three-member tribunal, led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder, passed the order, showing the trio arrested in the crimes against humanity case.

Confirming the matter to BSS, prosecutor BM Sultan Mahmud said the tribunal had issued arrest warrant against the three on January 27. 

"Of the three, Moinul was shown arrested over crimes committed in Mirpur area, Arshad over crimes in Chankharpul area and Chancal was shown arrested over crimes in Rampura and Badda areas," the prosecutor added.

Prosecutor BM Sultan Mahmud and GM Tamim took part in the hearing, while prosecutors Abdus Subhan Tarafder, Abdullah Al Noman, Moinul Karim and Saimum Reza were present at the courtroom, among others.
