DHAKA, Jan 28, 2025 (BSS) – Police arrested six persons in connection with the attack on the officials of Department of Environment (DoE) during a drive in a banned polythene factory in Chawkbazar.

The arrestees were identified as Md Humayun Kabir, 28, Md Ariful Islam, 40, Anwar Hossain Khokan, 48, Md Shahabuddin, 45, Md Nazmul Alam Uzzal, 36 and Md Sumon, 26, said a media release of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). 

DMP’s Detective Branch (DB) and Chawkbazar police in separate drives arrested them today and Monday.

On January 26, DoE conducted a mobile court in the banned polythene factories in Chakbazar and seized huge polythene. 

Later, on their way back after loading the polythene bags into a pickup truck, 150-200 people intercepted their way  with sticks, bricks, iron rods, etc and beat a DoE official, leaving him injured seriously.

Then they forcibly snatched away the banned polythene bags and vandalized the pickup truck. 

On that day, DoE Inspector Md. Motaher Hossain filed a case with Chawkbazar Model police station against 150-200 unknown persons and six named in the complaint.
