DINAJPUR, Jan 28, 2025 (BSS) – Election Commissioner Brigadier General (Retd) Abul
Fazal Md Sanaullah said the people will get an opportunity in the next election to cast votes for their chosen candidates as the commission is determined to restore its image.

“The previous flawed elections had tarnished the country's image, but a golden opportunity has now arisen to restore public trust. Citizens would be able to cast their votes freely for candidates of their choice,” he said.

He was addressing a view exchange meeting on the occasion of updating the voter lists at the Shilpakala Academy auditorium at Dinajpur town.

EC Sanaullah said, “We have got a golden opportunity now and we have to regain our lost images by exploiting this opportunity. There are some challenges in every election but now we can see opportunities more than the challenges”.

“Most of the political parties who have been demanding polls are struggling to restore democracy, free, fair and neutral elections for a long time. Our current young generations have also opened our eyes through the movement in last July-August regarding the citizen rights”, he added.

Referring to the upcoming general elections, Sanaullah said everyone should be conscious and careful in this regard.

“We will try to ensure the presence of agents of all candidates in the polling centres for holding a free, fair and credible election through a coordinated effort,” he said, adding that there will be no lack of confidence in the total process from voter enrolment to voting and announcement of the election results.

He acknowledged the challenges of reforming the system overnight but emphasized the importance of identifying key stakeholders and ensuring accountability. "If the Election Commission remains strong, transparent, and honest, those working under us will be compelled to maintain integrity as well," Sanaullah said.

Chaired by District Election Officer Md Kamrul Islam, the meeting was addressed, among others, by Dinajpur Deputy Commissioner Md. Rafiqul Islam, Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Abdullah Al Mamun.
