DHAKA, May 21, 2025 (BSS) – National Security Adviser Dr. Khalilur Rahman today categorically said that he holds only Bangladeshi citizenship and dismissed any speculation regarding foreign nationality.

“I hold only one nationality, and that is Bangladeshi citizenship,” Dr. Rahman said at a media briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital.

Clarifying his previous overseas residence, he stated, “Before arriving here, I lived in the USA with my family. But, it doesn’t mean that I am a foreign citizen.”

Addressing recent questions raised about his nationality, Dr. Rahman said that assumptions based on his time abroad are misleading.

“Please don’t label me with something that I really do not deserve. If you can, prove it in court,” he said.

Dr. Rahman also underscored his rights as a citizen and expressed concern over attempts to discredit him.

“I hold some rights as a citizen of this country and it would be very unfortunate if they do not respect the rights that I hold,” he added.

Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam and Deputy Press Secretary Apurba Jahangir were present at the briefing.
