BHOLA, May 23, 2025 (BSS) - A total of 13,800 volunteers have been kept ready at the coastal regions as the meteorological department in a recent bulletin warned that squally weather may affect the maritime ports, North Bay and adjoining coastal areas of the country.

"A total of 13,800 volunteers have been kept ready to face unpleasant weather at the coastal zones," said M Shahabuddin, deputy director of the district disaster management programme under the Disaster Management and Relief Ministry.

Besides, 869 flood shelters and 19 killa have also been kept ready in order to protect people and animals during disaster.

A meeting of the district disaster management committee has been convened on tomorrow (May 24) morning.

Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal number three as deep convection is taking place over the North Bay and adjoining coastal areas.

Meanwhile, the tidal surge remains high at the rivers in the coastal district Bhola since morning and Bangladesh Inter Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has issued restrictions on water transport movement to and from the coastal lines areas.

In addition, the Water Development Board has kept alert concerned officials as to their preliminary arrangement ahead of a likely storm as the officials can immediately repair the entire embankment including the Bhola town protection barrage.

All fishing boats and trawlers over the North Bay and deep sea have been advised to come close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice.
