DHAKA, May 24, 2025 (BSS) - Dhaka University (DU) will observe the 126th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam tomorrow with due solemnity through various programmes on the campus.

The theme of this year's observance is: "The Mass Uprising of 2024: The Legacy of Kazi Nazrul."

To mark the day, university teachers, students, officers and employees will gather at the base of Aparajeyo Bangla at 6:15 am. From there, a rally led by Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan will march towards the poet's mausoleum at 6:30 am, where floral wreaths will be placed and Fatihah will be offered.

A memorial meeting will later be held on the mausoleum premises to commemorate the life and contributions of Kazi Nazrul Islam.

VC Prof Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan will preside over the programme, while Pro-VC (Administration) Prof Sayma Haque Bidisha, Pro-VC (Education) Prof Mamun Ahmed, and Treasurer Prof Dr Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury will also be present.

Prof Dr Sirajul Islam (Siraj Salekin), Chairman of the Bangla Department, will conduct the programme.

Mohammad Azam, Professor of the Bangla Department and Director General of Bangla Academy, will deliver the memorial lecture.

Teachers and students from the Music Department will perform Nazrul Sangeet on the occasion.
