Salahuddin Tuku orders recovery of encroached land at National Zoo

DHAKA, Mar 27, 2026 (BSS) - Fisheries and Livestock State Minister Sultan Salahuddin Tuku today directed authorities to swiftly recover nearly seven acres of encroached land at the Bangladesh National Zoo, according to a PID handout.

Earlier at around 11 am, the state minister entered the zoo like a regular visitor, purchasing a ticket himself to inspect firsthand whether there was any mismanagement at the zoo and understand the actual situation. 

During the nearly two-hour stay, Tuku inspected various animal enclosures, the veterinary care centre and the medicine storage facility. 

He also visited the animal nutrition section to assess the quality and quantity of food provided to the animals.

During the visit, the state minister instructed concerned officials to improve cleanliness, seating arrangements and facilities for visitors.

Tuku also spoke with officials and staff to inquire about animal feed, healthcare management and overall maintenance.

He also directed the authority to begin visible development work within the current budget.

Among others, the state minister's Private Secretary Md Abubakar Sarker, Zoo Director Dr Mohammad Rafiqul Islam Talukdar, Curator Dr Md Atikur Rahman, and other concerned officials were present during the visit.
