
DHAKA, April 4, 2026 (BSS) - The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs today approved three separate proposals in principle for procuring some 16 lakh metric tons of diesel and one lakh metric tons of octane to meet the growing demand for energy in the country amid global geopolitical instability.
The approvals came from the eighth meeting of the Cabinet Committee on
Economic Affairs this year held today virtually with Finance Minister Amir
Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury in the chair.
The meeting reviewed three proposals from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division and thus approved those in principle, said Cabinet Division
officials.
In response to the first proposal, the meeting decided to import 10 lakh
metric tons of En590-10 PPM diesel and one lakh metric tons of octane
(gasoline 95 unladed) from DBS Trading House FZCO through direct procurement method (DPM) under international purchase.
The meeting approved another proposal in principle for procuring one lakh
metric tons of 50 PPM sulfur diesel from Maxwell International SPC through
direct procurement method under international purchase.
The day's meeting also considered and thus approved a proposal in principle
to import five lakh metric tons of High Speed Diesel (AGO) from Kazakh Gas
Processing Plant LLP through the DPM method under international purchase.
All three proposals were considered and thus approved to ensure fuel supply
in the country in the context of unstable geopolitical conditions arising
from the Middle East.
