
COX'S BAZAR, April 11, 2026 (BSS) - Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Fakir Mahbub Anam today said the government is working relentlessly to ensure uninterrupted and affordable internet services for all.
To deliver the internet service across the country, the minister urged all concerned to work concertedly.
He made the remarks while addressing a discussion titled 'Internet for All' as the chief guest at the conference room of the Cox's Bazar Deputy Commissioner.
Prime Minister's Adviser Rehan Asif Asad, Posts and Telecommunications Division Secretary Abdun Naser Khan and Cox's Bazar Superintendent of Police ANM Sajedur Rahman spoke at the meeting as special guests.
Fakir Mahbub Anam said uninterrupted internet connectivity is crucial to ensure security in coastal and fisheries sectors. He stressed the introduction of satellite-based internet services for fishermen working in the sea, particularly for cyclone warnings, piracy prevention and emergency communication.
He noted that the government is working to expand digital services across the country, especially in tourism-based areas like Cox's Bazar. Free Wi-Fi services have already been introduced at airports and railway stations.
He further said the government aims to bring technology to people's doorsteps. Various initiatives are being implemented to expand internet access up to the upazila level and to develop skills in freelancing and artificial intelligence (AI).
Rehan Asif Asad said the government is working to improve the quality of telecommunications services across the country. Measures have been taken to quickly resolve existing issues, including delays in BTCL services.
The Prime Minister's Adviser also said that efforts will continue to expand free Wi-Fi and improve mobile network services in Cox's Bazar. The quality of services will be gradually enhanced through investment and planning.
The meeting was chaired by Cox's Bazar Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Md. A. Mannan. Representatives of civil society, various stakeholders, media personnel and officials from different departments shared their views at the event.
