Shama lauds Gambia support on Rohingya ICJ case

DHAKA, April 21, 2026 (BSS) – State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam today lauded The Gambia’s continued support on the Rohingya issue, particularly its initiative in instituting proceedings against Myanmar at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

She expressed the appreciation during a meeting with Gambian Foreign Minister Sering Modou Njie on the sidelines of the Dakar International Forum on Peace and Security in Africa, a foreign ministry’s press release said here. 

During the meeting, the Gambian side commended Bangladesh’s significant contributions to United Nations peacekeeping operations.

Both leaders agreed to strengthen cooperation at multilateral platforms, including within the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), noting that The Gambia currently chairs the organisation.

They also underscored the importance of expanding engagement across sectors such as business, defence and security, technology, agriculture, culture and sports.
