SANGSAD BHABAN, April 23, 2026 (BSS) – Speaker of Jatiya Sangsad Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram, today said in Jatiya Sangsad that all problems can be resolved if the government and the opposition move forward in a spirit of cooperation.

The Speaker made the remarks while welcoming the move for forming a 10-member joint committee to be represented equally from the ruling party and opposition on the country’s power and energy situation.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman made the proposal for forming the joint committee in the House today with Power and Energy Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood as its head.

The Speaker said he expects the Leader of the Opposition to provide the names of their five members soon as the Jatiya Sangsad is set to be prorogued at the end of this month.

“Your speeches (Leader of the House and opposition leader) have generated significant hopes and aspirations among the people… if the government and the opposition continue to move forward in such a spirit of cooperation, it would be possible to resolve any problem of the country,” Hafiz said.

Earlier in his speech, the Leader of the House and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman proposed that Energy Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood to be made the chief of the committee to ensure that the committee’s recommendations could be considered effectively.
