Fakhrul mourns death of ex-lawmaker Harun Or Rashid

DHAKA, June 19, 2026 (BSS) - BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam 
Alamgir has expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of BNP Vice 
Chairman, former minister and veteran politician Harun Or Rashid.

Rashid passed away while undergoing treatment at the Specialized Hospital in 
Shyamoli in the capital on Thursday.

In a condolence message, the BNP Secretary General said, "The late Harun Or 
Rashid, who firmly believed in the policies and ideals of Shaheed President 
Ziaur Rahman, Bir Uttam, and the philosophy of Bangladeshi nationalism, 
worked with dedication to establish the BNP as a strong, dynamic and firmly 
grounded political party."

As a minister, he discharged his responsibilities with competence and 
honesty, said Fakhrul.

Under the leadership of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister, late Begum 
Khaleda Zia, he actively participated in every movement and struggle for 
securing the democratic rights of the people, he added.

"I am deeply saddened and distressed by his death. I pray to the Almighty 
Rabbul Alamin to grant the late Harun Or Rashid a place in Jannah and give 
his bereaved family the strength to bear this loss," he continued.

Mirza Fakhrul prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed 
his profound sympathy to the bereaved family members, relatives, admirers and 
well-wishers.
