Ex-MP Shahin Chakladar jailed for corruption

JASHORE, Jan 22, 2025(BSS)-The Special District and Sessions Judge Court here today awarded four years of rigorous imprisonment to former lawmaker from Jashore-6 constituency Shahin Chakladar in connection with a corruption case.

SM Nurul Islam, Judge of the court also fined him Taka 20,000 and ordered to confiscate his property worth about Taka 38,03,685.

Shahin Chakladar, general secretary of Jashore Zila Awami League, and former Member of Parliament (MP) from Jashore-6 (Keshabpur) constituency was not present at the court during the pronouncement of the judgment.

When contacted, Md Al Amin, Deputy Director (DD) of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC),  Jashore office confirmed the news referring the counsel of ACC advocate Md Sirajul Islam. The court also issued a warrant of arrest against Shahin Chakladar for the execution of the judgment, the DD added.

According to the court sources, the ACC Jashore office on March 30 in 2008 filed a case against Chakladar for his involvement in concealing wealth worth about Taka over 38 lakhs.

 There was a gross disparity in the tax file and wealth description of Shahin Chakladar in his tax file.
 
In his wealth statement, Shahin Chalkladar showed his total wealth of  worth Taka 1,96,21,400 in which 1,01,91,515 was loan. But the ACC during its investigation found that he concealed properties worth about Taka 38,03,685 .

The ACC after the investigation into the case submitted a charge sheet against Shahin Chakladar on January 5 in 2009.
