DSCC conducts cleaning drive on highway from Jatrabari-Signboard

DHAKA, April 19, 2025 (BSS) – Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) today conducted a special cleaning operation on the highway from Jatrabari to Signboard, and from Jatrabari to Staff Quarter via Kazla in the capital.

A total of 600 cleaning staffs from the Waste Management Department of DSCC participated in the drive, which started at 6:00 am to remove long-accumulated waste from about 10 kilometers of the highway and its islands from Jatrabari to Signboard, and along the route from Jatrabari to Staff Quarter via Kazla.

DSCC’s Administrator Md Shahjahan Mia after visiting the cleaning site told newsmen that 
DSCC had taken steps to mitigate swamp in the upcoming monsoon season. Currently, canal restoration and drain cleaning programme are progressing.

Shahjahan Mia said, “A special drive to reclaim and clean canals and drains under DSCC will be conducted from April 23”. 

He however, said that special training for mosquito control workers has been started to combat the spread of dengue during the monsoon period. Additionally, regular larviciding and adulticiding activities are continuing in every ward, he added.

In this connection, he urged the people to remain alert about dengue and supplement the governmnet’s effort to control dengue fever as well.

Shahjahan Mia mentioned that today's special initiative was undertaken following the directive of Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Advisor to the ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change.
 
Cleaning the waste on the highway up to the Signboard area, which falls under the Dhaka City Corporation, will not only protect the health of highway users from potential risks but also help prevent environmental pollution, he added. 

Chief Executive Officer of DSCC Dr. Zillur Rahman and Chief Waste Management Officer Air Commodore Md. Mahbubur Rahman Talukdar, among others, were present during the drive.
