Court orders to seize land, cars, shares of Tipu Munshi, his wife

DHAKA, April 21, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today ordered to seize land, cars, share and freeze bank accounts of former commerce minister Tipu Munshi and his wife Malabika Munshi.

The Senior Special Judge of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Court Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order following a petition submitted by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in this regard.

According to the ACC, Tipu Munshi has a two-storey building on a plot in city’s Uttara area and 91.92 decimal lands at Pirgachha upazila in Rangpur district. The court instructed to freeze his 11 bank accounts in which he has Taka 8,72,73,440 . The court also ordered to freeze his shares and two cars worth about Taka 5,58,79,680.

The ACC said that Malabika Munshi has a land in Gulshan, family savings certificates, a bank and shares of 10 institutions worth about Taka 4,67,25, 103.

The ACC in its petition to the court alleged that Tipu Mushi has illegally acquired cash, moveable and immoveable assets worth about Taka 5,90,27,612 by misusing power and criminal misconduct with an ulterior motive. 

He also made unusual and suspicious transaction worth about Taka 32,18,58,450 through his 11 bank accounts. He got involved in money laundering through these unusual transactions and tried to hide, transfer or handover it. 

The ACC filed separate cases against Tipu Munshi and his wife under section 27(1) of the ACC Act 2004, sub-sections 2 and 3 of section 4 of the Anti Money Laundering Act-2012 and section 5(2) of the Corruption Prevention Act-1947.
