Bangladesh Police playing 'unique role' in UN peacekeeping missions: Lacroix

DHAKA, April 22, 2025 (BSS) - The UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean Pierre Lacroix has praised the Bangladesh Police for their 'unique role' in global peacekeeping missions.

He made the remarks while paying a courtesy call on Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam at the Police Headquarters on Monday afternoon, said a press release of the Police Headquarters.

Highly praising the professionalism of police members in the UN peacekeeping missions, the Under-Secretary General said that they are playing a unique role in peacekeeping in various war-torn countries of the world.

The IGP said that Bangladeshi peacekeepers have already proved their skills and capabilities in global peacekeeping. 

"We are committed to upholding this legacy of professionalism in future as well," he said, adding that Bangladesh Police is ready to send more personnel to UN peacekeeping missions.

The police chief expressed gratitude to the UN Secretary-General and the concerned authorities for providing overall support to the Bangladesh Police in the UN peacekeeping missions.

The meeting was attended by Under-Secretary-General's Political Affairs Officer Brooke Shawn, Additional IGP (Crime and Operations) Khandaker Rafiqul Islam, Defense Adviser to the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations Brigadier General Mohammad Golam Rabbani, DIG (Operations) Md. Rezaul Karim, Additional DIG (UN Operations) Md. Abdullah Al-Mamun.
