10 more AL, BCL men held in capital for attempting to destabilize country

DHAKA, April 22, 2025 (BSS) - The Detective Branch (DB) of police in separate raids on Monday arrested 10 more activists of the Awami League (AL) and its banned student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on charges of participating in sudden processions brought out with an attempt to destabilizing the country from different parts of the capital.   

The arrestees have been identified as Jubo League co-secretary Tofazzal Hossain Tofail (46), Dhaka North City BCL former Co-Secretary Md. Faisal Hossain Rocky (19),  Hajiganj Upazila AL President and Hajiganj Upazila Parishad Chairman Helal Uddin Miyaji (63), Bangshal Thana Swechchhasebak League former Organizing Secretary Md. Chan Mia (60),  Uttarkhan Thana Matsyajibi League General Secretary Joydev Chandra Das (50),  Uttarkhan Thana Awami League activist  Md. Shipon Sarkar (33),  Dhaka City North Krishak League  Vice President Md. Abu Hanif (45), Krishak League leaders Noor Alam Siddiqui Haque (51),  Jatrabari Thana Chhatra League Co-Secretary Md. Towhidul Islam (29) and  Ward No. 61 Swechchhasebak League President Robin Sikder (30).

Separate teams of the DB arrested them after conducting raids at Sutrapur, Kafrul, Motijheel, Bangshal, Uttarkhan, Uttara, Bhashantek,  Mohammadpur, Dholaipar, Kajla Bridge areas on Monday, a police press release said today .  

The arrested were accused in several cases registered with different police stations in the capital , police said, adding that they were involved in attempting to destabilize the country in various ways by bringing out abrupt processions at different places in the capital .

With the latest arrest, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have so far arrested 41 members of the AL and its front organizations and associate bodies during the intensified drives in   last four days.
