DHAKA, April 22, 2025 (BSS) - Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Mohammad Azaz today urged all to combat possible dengue outbreaks in a collective manner in the upcoming monsoon season.

"This year, the rain has come before the summer hits. Due to the current rainy environment, dengue patients may increase at the hospitals. We have to deal with the dengue in an integrated manner," he said.

The administrator made the call while speaking at a meeting held at the conference room of Nagar Bhaban in the capital's Gulshan-2 area as the chief guest.

Representatives of public and private hospitals or clinics and public health experts spoke at the event, emphasising the elimination of mosquito breeding grounds and the controlling of mosquito-borne dengue disease during the upcoming monsoon season.

In the meeting, Mohammad Azaz called for setting up dedicated dengue units in all government and private hospitals.

He said, "Aedes mosquito larvae breed in homes. Our workers cannot enter homes for safety reasons. So, everyone needs to be aware. We need to spread the message of keeping our residential houses clean."

To make the DNCC's field-level workers more dynamic, he said, "We have planned to involve Bangladesh Machine Tools Factory, an affiliate of the Bangladesh Army, in the mosquito control programme."

About the DNCC workers of the third-party companies, he said, "We have decided to pay the bill to the field workers directly so that they can get their fair bills."

If DNCC supervisors and the workers who are assigned to spray medicines to kill mosquitoes do not discharge their duties properly, actions will be taken against them, he warned.

The mobile numbers of area-wise supervisors and the workers are given to the DNCC website, he said, adding that city dwellers can file complaints if they show any ignorance in spraying mosquito medicines.

Public health expert Professor Dr Benazir Ahmed, Director (Disease Control) of Directorate General of Health Services Md Farhad Hussain and noted entomologist Kabirul Bashar spoke on the occasion.
DNCC Chief Executive Officer Abu Sayeed Md Kamruzzaman, Chief Engineer Brigadier General Md Moin Uddin and Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Imrul Kayes Chowdhury also attended it, among others.
