DHAKA, April, 2024 (BSS) - The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) conducted a drive today and evicted at least 200 shops and establishments built illegally by encroaching roads and footpaths in Gulshan-2 areas of the city.

During the drive led by DNCC Estate Officer Farzana Khanom and Executive Magistrate Md. Shahidul Islam, nearly two kilometres of roads and footpaths in the Gulshan-2 area were made free from illegal establishments. The eviction covered both sides of Uttar Jame Mosque on Road 97, the front of DNCC Kacha Bazar, the backside of DNCC Market on Road 98, and adjacent roads and footpaths.

The removed structures included illegal makeshift food and tea stalls.
The mobile court also fined an establishment Tk 10,000 for dumping waste on the street. Two shopkeepers were fined Tk 1,000 and Tk 2,000 respectively for keeping goods on the road, and another shopkeeper was fined Tk 1,000 for failing to pay income tax.

Magistrate Md. Shahidul Islam said, "The illegally constructed shops and structures on roads and footpaths are obstructing the normal movement of the public. These illegal shops have also significantly increased traffic congestion."

He said drives to make roads free from illegal encroachment will continue.
