Shahjahan Khan, Palak, 4 others remanded in mass uprising cases

DHAKA, April 23, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today placed six individuals including former Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan and former state minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak on remand in different cases filed over murders and attempted murders that occurred during the July-August mass uprising.
 
The other remanded accused are former Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Atiqul Islam, general secretary of Dhaka University unit of banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Tanvir Hasan Soikat, Diamond World Managing Director and Awami League leader Dilip Kumar Agarwala and former officer-in-charge of Jatrabari Police Station Abul Hasan.
 
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mahbubur Rahman passed the orders as police produced the accused before the court and pleaded to place them on different terms of remand in the cases.
 
Of the six, Shahjahan was placed on one day remand, while Atiqul and Soikat were placed on a two-day remand each in a case lodged over the murder of madrasa student Md Arif with Jatrabari Police Station. Atiqul was also placed on a two-day remand in Bhatara Police Station case filed over Monir murder.

Palak and Dilip were placed on a two-day remand each in cases filed with Badda Police Station and Kotwali Police Station respectively. Former OC Abul was remanded for three days in a Jatrabari murder case.
 
Meanwhile, the court also showed Hasanul Haque Inu, Rashed Khan Menon, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Adv Qamrul Islam, Sadhan Chandra Mazumder, Atiqul Islam, Barrister Tureen Afroz, Tanvir Hasan Soikat, Abul Hasan and former ASP Tanjil Ahammed arrested in different cases filed over crimes committed during the July-August mass uprising.
