DHAKA, April 23, 2025(BSS) - Administrator of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mohammad Azaz today categorically said that the eviction drive to recover all canals, water bodies and open spaces from the grabbers under the city corporation would continue to make Dhaka a clean and livable city.

“We won’t serve you any notice before conducting the eviction drive rather we will come directly now to evict you (illegal occupants) from the government land,”  he told media in Katasur under Mohammadpur Katasur area after evicting illegal establishments from the ‘Haikkar Khal’ there.

Sounding a note of caution to the grabbers, he said, “You have to leave or vacate the grabbed lands or remove illegally constructed establishments of your own from the cannels or water bodies before issuing notice.”

Earlier, a team of Zone-5 of the DNCC led by its Zonal Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Mohammad Saiful Islam, DNCC Estate Officer Farzana Khanom and its Executive Magistrate Md Shahidul Islam conducted the eviction drive here.

The DNCC authority during its five-hour long drive, demolished a one-story building completely, a two-story building partially and evicted five tin-shed buildings.

Pointing his finger to the illegal grabbers, the DNCC Administrator said the eviction drive is going on in full swing and it would continue.

“We will demolish all the illegal buildings built on grabbed land either it is one-story or 10-story what may be…All the cannels connected with the Turag River would be freed from the obstructions by evicting all illegal establishments,” he added.

In this connection, he said the DNCC has conducted a joint survey on the Haikkar Khal comprising representatives from the DNCC and the owners before starting the eviction drive.

Replying to a query from a journalist, the DNCC Administrator said that the illegal occupations at Tejgaon truck terminal would be removed before the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha.

Replying to another query, he said that the hawkers and battery-run auto-rickshaws would be evicted completely from Mirpur section-10 and Farmgate areas soon.

The DNCC teams with the help of all concerned are taking preparation to fight against dengue during the upcoming summer season, he added.
