323 held, illegal nets, fish, fish fries seized in seven days

DHAKA, April 24, 2025 (BSS)- The River Police in a nationwide drive arrested 323 individuals and seized a huge quantity of illegal fishing nets, fish and fish fries in the last seven days.

The River Police is conducting the operation across the country to protect the country's fisheries resources and ensure safety on the waterways, said a press release.

During the past seven days operations, a total of 2,96,21,475 meters of illegal fishing nets, 9,149 kg of fish, 20,000 pieces of lump shrimps, 200 kg of jellied shrimps, and 181 bushes were seized.

In these operations, the River Police filed cases against 115 bulkheads for having no valid documents and seized two dredgers.

A total of 323 individuals were arrested during the nationwide drive.

Sixty seven cases including 45 cases of fishing, eight cases of recklessness, one each case of stolen goods, sand mining, robbery and other section, six cases of wrongful death, two cases of drugs, two cases of extortion were filed against the arrested individuals.

During the operations, the River Police recovered 12 human bodies. 

The seized illegal nets have been destroyed. 

The fish have been distributed to the orphanage and the fish fry have been released into the water.
