DHAKA, April 24, 2025 (BSS) - One accused, arrested in the case lodged over 
the murder of Primeasia University student Zahidul Islam Parvez on April 19, 
has given confessional statement today.

Mahathir Hasan, 20, gave his statement under section 164 before the court of 
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Minhajul Islam. After recording his statement, 
the court sent him back to jail.

Police arrested Mahathir in the wee hours of April 23 from a house at Azad 
Tower in Halishahar of Chattogram.

Earlier on April 19, Zahidul Islam Parvez, a third-year student of the 
Textile Engineering Department at Primeasia University, and his friend Md 
Tariqul Islam were attacked with country-made weapons by a group of 
individuals on the road in front of the university.

Later, Parvez, who sustained critical injuries, was rushed to Kurmitola 
General Hospital where on-duty doctor declared him dead.

On April 20, Parvez's cousin Humayun Kabir filed the case with Banani Police 
Station, naming eight individuals and accusing 25-30 people in total, of 
involvement in the crime.
