VoIP business ringleader held, 1547 SIMs, equipment seized in Hazaribagh

DHAKA, April 25, 2025 (BSS) - Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) early today in a drive arrested a ringleader of the illegal VoIP business along with huge quantity of VoIP equipment and 1,547 SIMs of various companies from the city's Hazaribagh area.

The arrestee has been identified as Md. Raju, 38.

A joint team of the RAB-2 and Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) arrested Raju in a raid at his rented house in Baddanagar area under Hazaribagh Police Station early today, said a RAB press release.

The arrested along with his cohorts have long been operating illegal VoIP business by installing various telecommunication equipment (SIM boxes, routers, antennas, laptops, SIM cards) at his rented house without the approval or license of BTRC, it said.

The gang is evading crores of money in revenue through the business, the release added. 

During the operation, they seized one HP Laptop, one SAMSUNG Laptop, and 1,547 SIM cards (GP-235, Robi-502, Airtel-370) and huge VoIP equipment, it said, adding: "The initial investigation revealed that Raju is the mastermind of the illegal VoIP business ring."

Necessary legal action is underway in this regard.
