Accused in army vehicle torching case, 4 other AL men held

DHAKA, April 25, 2025 (BSS) - Detective Branch (DB) of police in separate raids arrested five Awami League (AL) men, including an accused in a case for setting fire to army vehicle, in the capital.

Separate DB teams arrested them in drives at Dhanmondi, Banglamotor, Banani, Mirpur and Bimanbandar thana areas on Thursday and Friday, said a DB press release.

The arrested have been identified as Shuktail Union former chairman and president of the Shuktail Union AL Md Abed Ali, 52, Ramna and Hatirjhil Thana Mohila AL president Momtaj Parvin Sumi, 42, former vice-president of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Mohammad Zakir Hossain Sagor, 43, Mirpur Thana BCL acting general secretary MR Badal, 50, and Uttara Thana AL active activist Monirul Islam, 38.

Of the arrestees, Abed Ali Sheikh was an accused in s case for setting army vehicle on fire in Gopalganj district while Zakir Hossain Sagor was an accused in attacking the motorcade of BNP chairperson and former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia, it said.

Legal action is underway against the arrestees.
