PANCHAGHAR, April 26, 2025 (BSS) - Gono Odhikar Parishad (GOP) President Nurul Haque Nur today said the Awami League (AL) has lost its right to engage in politics in the country, saying the July mass uprising not only dismantled Awami fascism but also eradicated Indian aggression and dominance.
"Our stance is unequivocal - following the uprising, the Awami League will cease to exist in Bangladesh's political landscape. They will no longer to be engaged in politics here," he said.
Throughout history, no political party has ever been able to continue its activities after committing such atrocious acts of genocide and barbarity in any nation, he added.
The GOP President made these remarks while addressing a rally organized by the district unit of the party at the Mukta Mancha at Chowrangi intersection here in the town as the chief guest.
Nurul Haque Nur stated that while people in his country were dying at the border, the AL government did not voice a single protest in the past 16 years. Instead, their ministers shamelessly claimed that Bangladesh's relationship with India was like that of a husband and wife, he noted.
He continued, "Now, faced with public backlash, these same shameless individuals have fled the country and taken shelter in India. Some have even changed their names and pretended to be Hindu."
Mentioning that AL functioned as a political party subservient to India, he said Bangladesh seeks a friendly and respectful relationship with its neighbors, it must be based on equity, not subjugation.
The GOP President also urged everyone not to forget the political parties' roles, saying because of their political expediency and sycophantic thinking, the people did not take to the streets at their call for the last 16 years.
With District Gono Odhikar Parishad President Mahafuzar Rahman in the chair, central Shramik Odhikar Parishad Organizing Secretary Asaduzzaman Noor Asad, Panchagarh convener of Gonosanghati Andolon Sajedar Rahman Saju, General Secretary of the National Democratic Party (JAGPA) Shahriar Biplob, Panchagarh coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Fazle Rabbi and other central and local leaders also spoke.
