CHATTOGRAM, April 26, 2025 (BSS)-  Adviser of the BNP Chairperson and President of Chattogram North District unit of BNP Golam Akbar Khandaker today demanded stern action against miscreants and extortionists in different upazilas of Chattogram northern region particularly in Raozan.

He demanded deployment of more members of law enforcement agencies including Army-led joint forces to free the Chattogram north area from miscreants and extortionists.  

At a press conference at the party’s Nasiman Bhavan office in the city today Golam Akbar Khandakar briefed media on the law and order situation in different upazilas of Chattogram north region after August 5 last year.

He said a number of murders, kidnapping, frequent gun fights among the feuding groups and arson attacks on houses and commercial establishments were occurred in recent months centering sand extraction and to establish political dominance.

He demanded government’s quick intervention to stop all legal and illegal sand extraction from the Karnaphuli and the Halda rivers for three months.

He also called for total prohibition on earth cutting, installation of high-resolution CCTV on important points of Raozan upazila.
 
The BNP leader alleged that hardcore armed criminals and illegal toll collectors mainly belong to ousted Awami League under the patronization of a section of powerful political leaders using the banners of BNP are engaged in extortion, intimidation on people and murder in Raozan, Rangunia and Mirsharai upazilas in recent months.
 
“Life of the peace loving people, their business activities in large parts of Chattogram north area particularly in Raozan upazila are at stake as the criminals are reigning supreme,” he said.

He said the work of many government-run development projects came to a halt in many areas while private organizations and individuals cannot carry out any construction in their areas under the threat of terrorists to pay them toll before starting the work.
  
He demanded increasing the patrol of joint forces in the area to bring law and order under control.  

BNP north district unit leaders including Prof. Nurul Amin Chowdhury, M A Halim, Prof. Md Yunus Chowdhury and Col (retd) Azimullah Bahar among others, were present.
