63 AL leaders, activists held in Dhaka

DHAKA, April 27, 2025 (BSS) - Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested a total of 63 leaders and activists of the Awami League (AL) and its front organizations from different parts of the capital city in the last eight days.

They were apprehended on charges of attempting to destabilize the country by bringing out flash processions, Deputy Commissioner (media and public relations) of the DB Muhammad Talebur Rahman told BSS.

In the last two days, the DB personnel in separate raids at the city's Postogola, Turag, Panthapath and Jatrabari areas, arrested seven members of AL and outlawed Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).

The arrested individuals were identified as Sheikh Habibur Rahman, member of the AL Central Sub-Committee on Agriculture under Kafrul thana unit; Md. Farhad Hasan, Joint General Secretary of the Turag thana unit of Jatiya Sramik League; Golam Mawla, Joint General Secretary of the Dhaka Metropolitan North Chhatra League; Syed Imranur Rashid, former vice-chairman of Jhikargachha Upazila Parishad in Jessore district; Md. Amirul Islam (Raja), former president of the Jessore district unit of the Jubo League, municipal councilor, and panel mayor of Jhikargachha Municipality; Zafirul Haque, member of the Jhikargachha Municipality Jubo League and associate of former State Minister Rafiqul Islam; and Md. Azim (Bacha), member of the Narayanganj District Jubo League and confidant of former MP Shamim Osman.

Legal process is underway against them.
