A public notice, signed by Bogura Deputy Commissioner Hosna Afroza was issued in this regard today.

In accordance with the notice, Bogura City Corporation will be formed with moujas of 21 wards under the Bogura Municipality upon a notice issued on April 10 last by the Department of Local Government.

The deputy commissioner office called upon all to inform them if they have any objection in this connection.

The DC office of Bogura will send the final report to the Local Government Ministry for turning   Bogura into a city corporation within 45 days after issuing public notice on the basis of the opinion of the local people.

Discussion of transforming Bogura into the country’s next city corporation has come to light as the current deputy commissioner of the district proposed to announce Bogura as the city corporation on the plea that Bogura has long been deprived of development following the fall of the fascist Awami League government on August 5.

The people of Bogura district,  birthplace of the BNP’s founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, have demanded immediate steps to turn Bogura into a city corporation.

The Bogura Municipality was established in 1876. The municipality has got the status of Ka category. The area of the municipality is now 70 square kilometre. The Bogura Municipality is larger than various existing city corporations.
